Kabul Press?: Dr. Ramazan Bashardost, with his two running mates, officially registered himself for the Afghanistan Presidential campaign on May 7, 2009. He submitted his candidacy for the 2009 Afghanistan Presidential Campaign with 24,450 signatures and vote cards of Afghanistan citizens to the Independent Election Commission. Only 10,000 signatures are required for a presidential nomination. This number shows great popular support. Some candidates could not obtain even the minimum required signatures to enter into campaign.

Dr. Ramazan Bashardost selected Mr. Mohammad Mosa Barikzay, Professor at the Kabul Agricultural Institute, and Mrs. Afeefa Marouf, member of Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, as his Vice-Presidential candidates. They selected the Dove as their campaign symbol.

Dr. Ramazan Bashardost, after registration to Presidential Election, broadcasted a declaration as follows:

Declaration

In the of Allah and memories of the martyred,

Today, my two vice-president candidates, Mr. Mohammad Mosa Barikzay, Professor at the Kabul Agricultural Institute, Mrs. Afeefa Marouf, member of Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, and I, at 10:30 am local time, Kabul, on 17/2/1388 (May 7, 2009) registered as Afghanistan Presidential nominees. We, the Vice-presidential Nominees, members of Election Commission, journalists, and I, selected Dove as our campaign symbol, the symbol of peace and liberty.

My Vice-presidential Nominees are true citizens of this country whose hands are not stained with blood, nor involved in looting public lands, homes, and property. Both have higher education degrees in Agriculture and Teacher Training Institutes.

I am deeply grateful to my 24,450 fellow citizens who have given their votes to me (more than twice the required number, 10,000) within just a few days. I am very grateful to my fellow citizens for not requesting even one Afghani (Afghanistan currency).

I apologize to those fellow citizens from whom I could not collect voting card numbers due to the shortness of time.

After registration, returning to the Nation’s Tent, our first incident was witnessing a tragic fact of life in Afghanistan at Vazir Akbar Khan, 15th Street junction. A young fellow citizen slept on the sidewalk so that we thought he had passed away. We got out of the car and went to him.

Fortunately, we found him alive, but in the brink of dying, with worn out and dirty clothes, hungry and in miserable health. We took him to Vazir Akbar Khan Hospital and asked the authorities to pay serious attention. We asked that he be sent to the Red Crescent, Pol-e Artan, after he was stabilized.

Obviously, before us, other Presidential Candidates had also passed this street in their tainted hundred thousand dollar cars and paid no attention. It is sadly beyond their comprehension to leave their luxury and perfumed vehicles to touch assist unfortunate souls.

I am excited about victory and the upcoming election. Through the guidance of Allah and the people of Afghanistan, we will eliminate the war, poverty, bribery, tyranny, and injustice.

With regards,

Dr. Ramazan Bashardost
