The case of
Parwiz Kambakhsh, a reporter for the local newspaper, “Jahan-e Now,” and
a student at Balkh University, requires the
urgent attention of journalists and activists for freedom of expression.

Kambakhs
was accused and has been unlawfully detained for three months for possessing an
article, which discussed controversial verses of The Holy Quran regarding
women’s rights. 

We believe
that the government of Afghanistan and his Excellency president Karzai has an
important responsibility to secure free speech for journalists, especially in
the area of religion, like the world’s leading democracies.

We pledge
our support for and call on Mr. Karzai to work for the immediate release of Mr. 
Kambakhsh. He has strong support among those who care about freedom of speech
and democracy, and they are distributing the facts of this case world-wide.

مدافعین آزادی بیان و اندیشه و آزادی خواهان جهان دارد.

آقای کامبخش به اتهام گرفتن مقاله ای از انترنت که 
گفته می شود در آن به اسلام اهانت شده است, ماه هاست که به شکل غیر قانونی در
بازداشت به سر می برد.

 ما بر این باوریم که دولت افغانستان و شخص
آقای
حامد کرزی در قبال تامین آزادی بیان برای روزنامه نگاران, بويژه در موارد دین و
مذهب مسولیت بزرگ ملی و انسانی دارند.

ما بر حمایت خود از پرویز کامبخش تاکید نموده واز شخص
خود آقای کرزی خواهانیم تا در آزادی فوری و بدون قید وشرط این خبرنگار جوان تلاش
نمایند. پرویز کامبخش حمایت وسیع آنهایی را که به آزادی بیان و دموکراسی باور
کامل دارند را داشته و آن ها در پخش این حقیقت در سرتاسر جهان تلاش خواهند
کرد.

suportar a liberação imediata de um jovem journalista afghan


 Parwiz Kambakhsh é um repórter de um jornal local, de "Jahan-e Now," 
estudante da universidade de Balkh, requer a atenção urgente dos journalistas e
dos ativistas para a liberdade da expressão.
 Kambakhs foi acusado e foi detido ilegalmente por três meses por possuir um
artigo, que discutí-se versos controversos do

Quran holy a respeito dos direitos das mulheres.
 Nós acreditamos que o governo de Afeganistão e de seu excelentíssimo presidente
Karzai tem uma responsabilidade importante em fixar o discurso livre para
journalistas, especialmente na área da religião, como as democracias principais
do mundo.
 Nós prometemos nossa sustentação para convidamos o Sr. Karzai a trabalhar para
a liberação imediata do Sr. Kambakhsh.

    I have received unsettling information regarding the case of Parwiz Kambakhsh, a reporter for the local newspaper, “Jahan-e Now,” and a student at Balkh University. As a member of parliament in Germany I am worried about the freedom of speech and the free press in Afghanistan.

    Kambakhsh was accused and has been unlawfully detained for three months for possessing an article, which discussed controversial verses of The Holy Quran regarding women’s rights.

    I believe that the government of Afghanistan and your Excellency, President Karzai, have an important responsibility to secure free speech for journalists, especially in the area of religion, like the world’s leading democracies.

    I pledge our support for and call on Mr. Karzai to work for the immediate release of Mr. Kambakhsh. Thank you very much for your attention!

  • I personally know Mr Parwiz and I also know the teacher at the Balkh University and the students who have filed the complaint against Mr Parwiz. Access to Information and freedom of expressing views is the right of every citizen of Afghanistan guaranteed by the Afghan constitution. In case of Mr Parwiz, he hasn’t committed any crime, but has read something that is opposing the views of the Mullahs. He is being punished for not agreeing with the views of the fundementalist Mullahs - who have over-shadowed democracy and freedom of speech in the country. I ask Mr President of Afghanistan to take action and order immediate release of the fellow journalist. Dont punsih someone just because he thinks differently.

  • It is funny how the people in Afghanistan think that it is a democracy. As an Afghan and a journalist, I think it is even funnier that the people abroad think it is a democracy too.

    One founding father of America once said that if he were to choose between a dictatorship with freedom of speech and a democracy without it, he would choose the former.

    Yet in Afghanistan, speaking up for what you believe in or what the truth is or merely quoting someone else is 100% illegal as long as someone in power deems it to be so.

    Worse than that is the fact that when you read international media and you expect them to draw attention to it, it turns out they’re bound by their own national interests.

    BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European parliament appealed to Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Friday to intervene to spare the life of a young journalist after a report that religious leaders demanded he be killed for blasphemy.

    Sayed Perwiz Kambakhsh, 23, a reporter of the Jahan-e Naw daily paper and a journalism student at Balkh University in northern Afghanistan, was detained three months ago.

    He was accused of mocking Islam and the Koran and of distributing an article which said the Prophet Mohammad had ignored the rights of women.

    The Paris-based worldwide media watchdog Reporters without Borders (RsF) said on Thursday a group of Afghan religious leaders called the Council of Mullahs had called for him to be executed.

    Blasphemy is punishable by death in Islam and Afghanistan is a deeply conservative Islamic country.

    "I would like to appeal to you in the strongest possible terms to use your good offices to intervene in this matter and ensure that the life of Mr Perwiz Kambakhsh is spared," the European parliament’s speaker Hans Gert Poettering said in a letter to Karzai.

    He said the Afghan government should be supporting efforts to improve conditions for women and added: "It is essential that persons working for civil rights and freedom of expression be afforded sufficient legal protection."

    Since the ousting of the Taliban’s radical Islamic government in 2001, dozens of newspapers and other publications, some funded by foreigners, have sprung up in a country enjoying an unprecedented wave of press freedom.

    جنایتکاران حاکم ، خبرنگار جوان پرویز کامبخش را از سه ماه بدینسو در ولایت بلخ اسیر کرده و در محاکم قرون وسطایی آنجا، تحت نظر چند قاضی جاهل و تاریک اندیش زیر فشار و تهدید به مرگ گرفته اند. اتهامات وارده به حدی احمقانه است که هر انسان آزادیخواهی را مالامال از تنفر و خشم میسازد. در کشوری که از شش سال بدینسو بصورت گوش خراش طبل «آزادی بیان»، «حقوق بشر» و «دموکراسی» ... کوبیده میشود، فاشیزم مذهبی همچنان بر کرسی عدالت تکیه زده و «دلت را میپویند»‌ که مبادا از آزادی و عدالت و علیه خاینان ستمکار "ائتلاف شمال" سخن بر زبان رانده باشی.

    حرکت کنونی تبهکاران بلخ در مقابل پرویز نه صرفا به خاطر روشنگری های وی در نشریه «جهان نو» بلکه اساسا در واکنش به گزارشهای برادرش سید یعقوب ابراهیمی است که به مثابه خبرنگار باوجدان و شرافتمند، حقایق هولناک از ولایات شمال کشور تحت مافیای جهادی را برملا نموده و جهان را از آنچه بر مردم ما زیر تسلط سر جنایت سالاران پلیدتر از طالبان میگذرد باخبر میسازد.

    اینان وقتی با هیچگونه ارعاب و زور نتوانستند ابراهیمی را به سازش و سکوت وادارند، می‌کوشند با دوسیه سازی‌ای دروغین و مسخره برای برادرش به هدف شان برسند. شورای علمای بلخ که از زمان پیدایش تا امروزهیچگاه علیه جنایت پیشگان و حق تلفی ها و بی‌ناموسیهای شان کلمه‌ای نگفته اند، اینک وقیحانه خواهان حکم اعدام برای پرویز شده اند.

    شرم این حرکت انکیزیسیونی اولتر از همه به روی آقای کرزی و حامیان جهانی‌اش می‌نشیند که طی چند سال گذشته نفرین شده ترین خونخواران را نکتایی و پتلون پوشانده، رنگ و روغن «دموکرات» زده و بر مردم ما مسلط نمودند و اخیراً هم کرزی اعلام داشت که زورش به آنان نمی رسد!

    «جمعیت انقلابی زنان افغانستان» (راوا) از تمامی شخصیت ها، سازمانها و نیروهای آزادیخواه و مدافع حقوق بشر می‌طلبد تا خواهان رهایی فوری و بدون قید و شرط پرویز شده و با بلند کردن صدای اعتراض شان دولت افغانستان و حامیانش را وادارند که جلو اینگونه اعمال قرون وسطایی به سبک رژیم آخوندی ایران، گرفته شود.

    The criminals who are in power in Afghanistan have imprisoned Parwiz Kambakhsh, a young journalist, since October 2007 in Belkh province - Northern Afghanistan. He is threatened to be hanged by the dark-minded and ignorant judges in the medieval courts of Afghanistan. The accusations are so ridicules and injudicious that it makes any freedom-loving person want to stand and say enough is enough. Mr. Kambakhsh is accused of printing/distributing an article from the Internet, which points out controversial verses of the Quran regarding women’s rights. The book “Religion in the History of Civilization” (by Will Durant), taken from his living room, has been kept as an evidence against him in the court!

    In a country where for the last six years there are many claims regarding “democracy”, “human rights”, and “freedom of press”, but the religious fascists have their grip on justice and try every possible way to find out if someone criticizes or comments about the Northern Alliance criminals to be muted.

    Imprisonment of Parwiz Kambakhsh is not only for his enlightening articles in a local newspaper, Jahan-e-Now, but also because of his brother Yaqub Ibrahimi, who is a well-known, brave and realistic reporter and exposed many criminal faces from Jehadi mafia in Northern Afghanistan to the world public.

    The Jehadi criminals, who could not silence Ibrahimi, now try to pursue a traitorous agenda by unlawfully imprisoning his brother in order to hush him.

    The Religious scholars council of Belkh province who have never condemned the criminal acts of the fundamentalist warlords in the north, now disgracefully issued verdict for execution of Parwiz Kambakhsh.

    Initially, shocking detention of Mr. Kambakhsh is a great disgrace for Mr. Karzai and his Western patrons who decorated the notorious criminals in pant and tie and brought them in power under the guise of “democrats”. Now Mr. Karzai says he is not as powerful to control them.

    Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) kindly asks all freedom-loving individuals and organizations who believe in human rights and democracy to stand up against the unjust imprisonment of Parwiz Kambakhsh, and ask for his immediate release. Only your strong support for justice and freedom can stop the mediaeval acts of the Afghan government and its allies, which are in the style of the brutal Iranian regime.

    Dear Mr. President:
    Asalaam Alaikum.

    I am respectively writing this urgent letter today to ask you to intervene in the case of a young Afghan journalist, Parwiz Kambakhsh, who has been imprisoned in Balkh province since October 2007. He has been imprisoned and threatened with hanging because of printing, distributing and discussing controversial verses of the Holy Quran regarding women’s rights.

    Freedom of the press is the freedom to discuss all ideas, challenge all thinking and to openly discuss freely all thoughts, ideas and concepts in the light of day where all have the freedom to think about what has been stated or discussed. It has been said he has committed blasphemy by his words. It has been said that his words have challenged men in power and criminals who hide beneath the cloak of power. It has been said that he is being punished for the actions of his brother Yaqub Ibrahimi.

    Whether any of these are the case or none of these are the case, I urgently implore you to use the power of your position and the power of those who you can influence, to seek the release of this young journalist and to protect him from those who would have him executed. The people of Afghanistan face many challenges and threats, both internally and externally. The people of Afghanistan deserve to live in a country where they can freely and without fear, express and discuss new ideas, express and discuss old ideas, and challenge each other to respect thoughts and ideas that may differ from their own. The people of Afghanistan should not be afraid of words.

    I believe the people of Afghanistan have suffered enough oppression, persecution and death especially in the last twenty five to thirty years, at the hands of those who have held the power of life, death and intimidation. Civilized governments need not fear freedom of speech.

    Those who fear the words of new ideas, new thinking and the challenges of an educated population should not be feared any longer. They should be stripped of their powers and their positions, and their threats should be neutralized by the power of justice, truth and the rule of law.

    The international community is behind you and is waiting to see on which side of justice you stand.

  • With great respects to human rights, i would like to share my views that we have to respect (beliefs and values) of 1.5 Billion people on this planet. How we can say that alomost 1.5 Billion people are following the wrong path and one single person who has not knowledge about Islam is the only right one. We should always be fair and do not insult any religion. If we think a bit deeply, we cab find that 98% of human beings on this planet have faith and they believe in God some ways. Some are Budist, some are Christians, Some are Jewish, some are Hindu, some are Confuciast and so on, hence we have to respect people’s beliefs. If do not punish those transgressors then there will many others who abuse and insult people’s beliefs and values.

  • As a journalist and press freedom advocate I find it shocking that a journalist can be tried and convicted behind closed doors and even more shocking and disturbing that he then can be sentenced to death. Please release Parwiz Kambakhsh immediately. At the very least try him in an open, fair and just court.

  • I am shocked and saddened by the news. Open minded people are really in danger in Afghanistan and any reformist and secular movement is prohibitted and restricted by ignorant mullahs in this country and has always been so in the course of history.

    The democracy which some politicians and Afghan government officials claim for is totally false. Democracy without freedom of expression, freedom of press, freedom of religion make no sense! A symbolic presidential election or parliamentry can not been considered democracy alone without religious tolerance and respect.

    In regard to the article of this young and talented journalist, I like to say that having started his journalistic work recently, his main intention was to attract more readers through a new and interesting article of such. Therefore, I strongly believe that he is totally innocent and I sure am that such acts of barbarism by ignorant mullahs can not stop the open minded people speak out their mind.

    Lastly, I would like to ask President Karzai and International Community and particulary United States of America to intervene in the issue and release this talented young journalist.

    I hope that one day a true democratic and secular government rules Afghanistan and I believe that is the only solution for a briliant future to this country - otherwise, we have to keep living as we are now, in the 12th centurey!

    My messege for Kambakh is to be brave - we are all with you and you will hopefully be brought out of the jail soon! I wish you all the best.

    It is absurd to me - and hopefully to billion others - that even today someone will be sentenced to death because of religious reason. In the name of a religion which was originally dedicated to peace. Why is common sence such a rare occurence when fundamentlists are at work?

  • May I join the fray by asking the Afghan President to intercede and reverse the harsh conviction of the young Afghan journalist.

    Even though the journalist erred the sentence would have been fair to him if it was a stern warning-NEVER DO THAT AGAIN than resolve to "cut shot his breathe".

We know that we (ISAF) should not intervin in Afghanistans internal affairs but what shall we respond to our people in Norway when they ask us why you kept silence in this important issue ? 50% of Norwegian people want us to leave afghanistan, if you commit this sentence than the number of people who want us to withrow will increase. Please let us be here to help you for a prosprous Afghnaistan. Do not disapoint us.

The first line of Article 34 in Afghanistan’s Constitution states "Freedom of expression is inviolable". I pray your government will uphold this right and restore Parwiz Kambakhsh’s freedom.

As a reporter, Kambakhsh must have the right to update the society of what is taking place and that shouldnt be taken against him. Afghanistan NEEDS young man like Kambakhsh and other young women to help build our country. Every man and women have the right to life and liberty and if we start eliminating young men like Kambakhsh, Afghanishtan wont exist. There are so many young Afghan men and women around the world who are willing to return and aid the country. I know for a fact that i am returning to AFghanistan as a journalist and if young men like Kambakhsh are imprisoned, then what does that tell us? Why should we return and help a country that does not accept or seek any help?
    All men are born equal with fredoom of speech and only God can judge. It is a shame that young men like Kambakhsh puts thier life in risk to help our nation and they are being imprisoned. This is not JUSTICE. What crime have he commited? He simply carried on with his career as a reporter and that is what reporters do, they report and update the society and if something seems to upset a part of society, is that really Kambakhsh’s fault? Is it his fault that our people are afraid to accept the truth when it hurts?
    Maybe we all should just STOP and THINK for 2 minute before acting upon him. I truly inspire his couragous and outstanding act and i am so delighted that AFghanistan have such men like Parwiz Kambakhsh, we should praise him, not imprison him.
    Please take into consideration that this is a life of a young men, let us all put ourself into his shoes and look things from his perspective.

  • از این تصمیم بوی طالبانی می آید که می خواهد مردم کور و کر گنگ باشد . ما در تاریخ شاهد آزادی بیان در اسلام بوده ایم که بر بنیاد آن مسلمین حق هر گونه سخن گفتن و اظهار نظر را داشتند بنا بر آن بجای فطوای قتل جوابات قانع کننده از طرف اهل دانش و علما ارائه می گردیده . گروههای از مسلمین با نظرات ، اندیشه و اعتقاد متنوع تانستند حتی فرقه ای جداگانه تشکیل بدهند که در آن زمان مورد تهاجم بقیه مسلمانان قرار نگرفت. بلکه جهان اسلام آزادی انتخاب متفاوت را برای دیگران جایز دانست. چنانچه میبینیم که اهل تسنن و تشییع چندین گروه دیگر در بین شان وجود دارد که خود بیانگر این می باشد.امروز از نظر دانش و آگاهی ما در فاصله های بسیار زیاد از آنهادر اسلام اولیه قرار داریم.
    پیامبر اسلام (ص) ستیز تفکری را با تفکر جواب می داده اند. و مردم را از نظر اعتقادی استحکام می بخشیدند تا اینکه با خشونت فیزیکی جواب دهد.
    صداقت و خلوص در همچین تصامیم دیده نمی شود. بهتر است که تا در این مورد باز نگری صورت گیرد . تا این خود یک دهشت افگنی فکری برای جهانیان تلقی نگردد.

    فدراسیون سازمانهای پناهندگان افغانها در اروپا (فارو ) صدور حکم اعدام آقای پرویز کامبخش محصل سال سوم دانشکده ژورنالیزم دانشگاه بلخ و روزنامه نگار را که از طرف محمکه بلخ صورت گرفته از اساس بی بنیاد و غیر عادلانه پنداشته و صدور چنین احکامی را خلاف قانون رسانه ها و بر خلاف اصل آزادی بیان و عقیده تلقی نموده و اعلام میداریم که تا چه وقتی تفتیش عقاید و محتسب بازی باید در مورد روزنامه نگاران ، کارکنان رسانه ها و محصلین از جانب انحصار طلبان وتمامیت خواهان حاضر در صحنه قدرت و محاکم همسنگشان اعمال میگردد. .
    از بستن واتش زدن مکاتب و دانشگاها در این سالیان سی چه چیزی حاصل مردم ما شده و یا کدام سودی را بدست آوردیم که اکنون چشم و گلوی محصلین و روزنامه نگاران را میفشارند ؟
    پس وجود پوهنتونها ونشر جراید برای چیست ؟
    اگـر محصلی که انهم در کنار تحصیل برای امرار معاش به کار روزنامه نگاری نیز رو آورده که مکملی برای بالا بردن تجربه شغلی آینده اوست ، و در کشوری به تحصیل و کار مشغول است که کتابخانه هایش به اتش کشیده شده است و کمتر کتابی در قفسه های کتابخانه ها برای مطالعه محصلین و مردم وجود دارد ، مراجعه پرویز کامبخش به انترنیت و افزودن بر اطلاعات خود و دیگران تا کی باید گناه پنداشته شود ، پس در اینصورت آزادی بیان و اندیشه و احتـرام به کرامت انسانی را چگونه صادر کنندکان حکم اعدام پاسخ گو خواهند بود ؟
    در کشور استبداد زده ما اکنون استبداد فکری حـلقه های خاصی بازهـم میخواهند با زیاده خواهی وانحصار طلبی شان قربانی بگیرند وآنانی را که مثل خود شان نمی اندیشند به قربانگاه بفرستند ویا با جبر وتهدید وایجاد ترس بر چشم و دهان نویسندگان و روزنامه نگاران مهر سکوت ببندند .
    اگـر دیروز صدای میر حسین مهدوی ، علی محقق نسب و اجمل نقشبندی .. و دیگران را به مصاف طلبیده بودند امروز نوبت پر ویز کامبخش رسیده و فردا معلوم نیست که نوبت کی باشد دادگاهای افغانستان بجای اینکه توجه رسیده گی شان را به دوسیه های هزاران قربانی خشونت ، فساد و جنایتهای انجام یافته توسط جنایتکاران حاضر در صحنه نماید ، دیگر اندیشان ، ژورنالیستان ورسانه های تصویری مانند تلویزونها و رادیوها و بلاخره جوانان کشور را در معرق توجه قرار داده اند ، که این امر نیز باید مورد توجه محافل جامعه مدنی فعال در کشور،مجمع های سیاسی ملی و مخصوصا کشورهای کمک دهنده جامعه بین المللی قرار گیرد و این وضعیت نابسامان سانسور ، تفتیش عقاید ، تهدید و ایجاد هراس که امروز به یک عادت تبدیل گردیده باید تغیر یابد وبه آن نقطه پایان گذاشته شود.
    فدراسیون سازمانهای پناهندگان افغان در اروپا به نمایندگی بیش از 54 انجمن و سازمانهای فرهنگی و سیاسی افغانها در سراسر اروپا و امریکا ضمن اینکه صدور حکم صادره از طرف محمکه بلخ را انهم بصورت سری و بدون حضور وکیل مدافع آقای پرویز کامبخش ،صدور این حکم را از بنیاد بی اساس و غیر قانونی و خلاف قوانین رسانه ای و موازین حقوق مدنی شهروندان افغان و حقوق بشری هـر انسان تلقی نموده و فدراسیون سازمانهای پناهندگان افغانها در اروپا ،اماده گی خود را برای انجام همکاری درمـورد وکالت اقای پـرویز کامبخش اعـلام داشته و خواهـان لغـو حکم صادره و آزادی ایشان از قـیـد زندان میباشـیم.

  • The decision of the Judge against Mr. Kambakhsh is an embarrassment to Afghanistan. We hope that the administration will address this grossly harsh sentence, not only because it is harsh and unfair but because it is contrary to fundamental human rights to which the Afghanistan government has claimed to support for many decades. The government should not annul the ruling or simply obtain Mr Kambakhsh’s release: It must act against a judge that takes such action, for this judge clearly does not agree to the principles of human rights that the government of Afghanistan is pledged to uphold. In the case of the man who was condemned to death for being a Christian the government allowed the grounds for the condemnation to stand; they merely whisked the new Christian out of the country. They should not take a similar approach in this case, for if they do not renounce and punish the judge for his verdict they will seem to accede to his point of view. The issue is fundamental and should be handled in the interest of protecting the rights of the Afghanistan people as a whole, not merely Mr Kambakhsh.

    Unless recognisably criminal charges can against Parwiz Kambakhsh be articulated, I urge his immediate and his unconditional release.

    میخواهم بدانم که این ملا هاکه خود را حافظ دین میدانند تنها در مورد پرویز اینها مسلمان هستند و حافظ دین هستند یا در دیگر موارد هم. این حافظین دین زمانیکه یک دختر 13 ساله با سگ جنگی تبادله شد کجا بودن یا اینکه تبادله انسان با سگ در اسلام روا است ویا اینکه مادر برای نجات دیگر فرزندان از گرسنگی فرزند شش ماه خود را به 500افغانی به فروش میرساند این ملاها و اسلام گرایان که مهر اسلامیت را به سینه میزنند کجا هستند تا این افراد را از گرسنه گی نجات بخشد.
    آیا در اسلام چنین است که چندین تن از گرسنه گی بمیرند و این ملاها با شکم سیر و آروق ترشیده به فکر اعدام یک جوان تحصیل کرده باشند؟
    این ملا ها همیشه با تاریک نگهداشتن اذهان عامه بازار خود را پر رونق نگهداشته است و حالا هم نمیخواهد که به این ساده گی از رونق بازار بیفتند.
    اما این آقای ریس جمهور که داد از دموکراسی و آزادی بیان میزند در کدام خواب به سرمیبرد که هیچ بیداری ندارد. همیشه در افغانستان آن چیزی که خیلی ارزان و کم بها بوده خون جوانان این کشور است که همیشه سیاسیون به خاطر بازی های سیاسی شان و برای نشان دادن قدرت برای همدیگر خون مردم بیگناه و جوانان این کشور را ریخته اند.
    این واقعآ جای شرم برای آقای کرزی است که همیشه داد از دموکراسی میزنند ولی درمقابل قضاوت در مورد کامبخش سکوت اختیار کرده است من نمیدانم که کرزی چی خواهد کردد اگر روزی پسر نازدانه خودش با چنین سرنوشتی دچار شود. و یا اینکه در مورد این هم مانند شهید نقشبندی چند قطره اشک تمساح خواهد ریخت.
    اگر کامبخش اعدام شود شک من کاملا به یقین تبدیل خواهد شد که این آقای کرزی همان ملا عمر پس پرده است.
    از همه میخواهم که یک صدا برای آزادی کامبخش تلاش کنید

  • It is not easy to find the courage and to raise your voice as a journalist in the countries of Mid East or southern Asia.
    As a Correspondent for the Greek Television in Mid East the last 8 years i kept my self and my mouth quiet a lot of times, just because i had to respect the traditions or the local ethical rules.
    Few other times i cross the red thin line and i found my self loosing friends and partners.
    Whatever...right or wrong it does ’t matter.
    Parwiz Kambakhsh he proof as an independent journalist that he can raise he’s voice.
    I don’t really believe that Hamid Karzai will not aprove the immediate release of a young Afghan Journalist, but on the other hand who ever visit the country can understand how dificult the balances there.
    Politics-tradition-Ethical rules-Freedom of Speech.

  • It is unthinkable that Mr. Parwiz Kambakhsh has been convicted of blasphemy for the peaceful distribution of copies of articles downloaded from the internet which some say question the Koran, and even worse that for this alleged crime he has been sentenced to death.

    It is especially distressing that such extreme punishment would be meted out to a person who has not committed any violent or criminal act, and who was simply sharing ideas, and that capital punishment could be handed down after a closed trial that some allege was unfair and in which Mr. Kambakhsh was not represented.

    President Karzai speaks of the freedom of press and the freedom of speech. It is also written into the Afghan constitution in Article 34. But in light of Mr. Parwiz Kambakhsh’s plight it is hard to take the president’s words seriously.

    It is imperative that the Afghan government step up to the plate and stop this blatant violation of free speech, free press, human rights, and fair trail. If Afghanistan wants to be taken seriously by the rest of the world they need to start seriously supporting and protecting human rights.

    I found this letter to the editor by Daniel Dennett online and admit, I could not say it any better:

    The conviction and pending execution of an Afghani student, Mr. Parwiz Kambakhsh, for blasphemy is an appalling circumstance, but it offers an opportunity that we should all seize. The time has come for Muslims to step up to the plate and demonstrate that Islam is a great faith that has no need for violence or intimidation to maintain the loyalty of its congregation. And we outside Islam must make it crystal clear that we cannot respect or honor a religion that would consider blasphemy a capital crime, no matter how ancient the tradition from which this decision flowed. Muslims who support–or refrain from condemning–the conviction and sentence of Kambakhsh must be made to realize that they share responsibility for bringing dishonor to their cherished heritage, and if we non-Muslims do not speak out, we too must share in the blame. Friends don’t let friends commit, or condone, evil. The best way of showing our good will towards Islam is by helping it shed an indefensible aspect of its legacy. Every religion has much to atone for, but that is no reason to button our lips and tolerate fresh grounds for atonement.

    There is no need, yet, for anger. Let us all just remind Muslims everywhere of what they must surely know: blasphemy is not a capital crime in any society worthy of respect. It is now up to Muslims to prevent some of their number from defiling their own precious culture.

    طوری که میدانید مدت چندین هفته است که آقای سید پرویز کامبخش دانش آموز دانشکده روزنامه نگاری دانشگاه بلخ، از جانب نیروهای امنیت ملی بطور غیر قانونی دستگیر و به زندان انداخته شده است که به تعقیب آن محکمۀ ابتدائیه ولایت بلخ زیر فشار ملاهای متعصب و معلوم الحال حکم به اعدام موصوف را صادر نموده است. این دستگیری و در بند کشیدن روزنامه نگار جوان، و از همه بد تر فتوای اعدام، مایه شرمساری برای تمام کسانی خواهد بود که زمام امور عدلی و قضائی کشور را در دست دارند.

    We (50) Afghan students studying diffrenet courses here in Lucknow hereby kindly request the Government of Afghanistan to release Mr. Parwiz Kaambakhsh as he is not the writer of the article so nobody has the right to punish him, or even ask him to the court. Though we are all Muslims and respect our relegion and should not forget that Parwiz Kaambakhsh is also a Muslim boy.

    Parwiz Kaambakhsh, a 23 year old student of Balkh University’s journalism faculty was sentenced to death by a court because he had copied an article from a website containing un-Islamic material.

    It is clearly inhumane and unjust to kill someone for copying an article, read and distribute it because the constitution of Afghanistan has given the right of freedom of expression to every one.

    This Taliban-style sentence is not acceptable to anyone and this decision is condemned by all human rights organizations, civil societies, journalists and STUENTS’ unions outside the country and individuals in Afghanistan and the entire world.

    This sentence will only strengthen the war-lords and the terrorists who want their own dominance by imposing their self-made brutal laws and by keeping the society in ignorance.

    We kindly request the government of Afghanistan to release Parwiz Kaambakhsh and prove that the government respects human rights and freedom of expression.

    The main problem is LACK OF MEDIA LAW in Afghanistan or mainly an Internet Law in Afghanistan otherwise we would not face such problems or would not bother an innocent reporter who only got the article form the internet.

I appeal to you to please excuse Mr. kombakhsh and release him from jail.I have served my country for many years at different levels of the the goverment. I have faced a lot of cases when one of my sub ordinates has made a mistake. I have excused the person with the promise that he will not repeat the same mistake again.All of those people had changed to a very honest workers .Now that many yaers has passed from that time. I feel very satisfied and proud of my self that I changed them to good citizens and sleep in peace in this respect.You will not be the president for ever. And Mr. Kambaksh has not commited any wrong doing to be hanged for.The history and the people will judge you.If your excelency keeps quite and do not save this young man, you will never sleep in peace as long as you live. . I do not hear any bad thing about myself in Shberghan, Mazar and Kabul where I have worked for more than thirty years.
    It may be a hard decision for your sir, but the hard decisions are taken by strong peoples as you, your excelency.

    I’m afghan and live outside Afghanistan.

    Well, this case has created debate world wide, and I think it is very needed to support it, because this young journalist really worth every readers support.
    Personally I dont think he has done anything wrong, I would rather say he has done the right thing. Being journalist has some conditions such as:

    • not being censored
    • having freedom of speech

    So I dont see what he has done wrong, he has freedom of speech and therefore he tried and took the risk and tried to see, if it he could share his opinion. But unfortunately NO, he is sentenced to death.

    My personal comment is in short: The goverment of Afghanistan should first of all give people of afghanistan their rights, and especially journalists should not undergo fundamentalist rules! Let there be democracy and freedom of speech in Afghanistan too! lets move forward instead of backwards!

    سلام به تمام اطفال دور از مکتب، خانواده های بی سرپرست، معلولین جنگ، لشکر میلیاردی گرسنگان؛ همزنجیرانی که با دستان خالی، شکم گرسنه و روان آشفته در کوچه های کابل، مزارع هند، جبهات دارفور، پس کوچه های نیویارک و کارخانه های شانگهای بخاطر یک لقمه نان تقلا می کنند!

    سلام به تمام آزادی خواهانی که به بهانه ی نام کوچک من، درین مدت آزادی را پاس داشتند و نفرت و انزجار خود را بر ستمکاران، دلالان دین، وطن فروشان و قاتلان مردم نوشتند، گفتند و فریاد کردند!

  • Where are we without freedom of thought and expression? If we are banned from reading information, from learning, how can our opinions ever be just? They can’t. It is a terrible, terrible thing when a man is threatened with destruction for enlightening himself. Parwiz Kambakhsh must be freed.     فدراسیون سازمانهای پناهندگان افغان در اروپا (فارو) قضیه پرویزکامبخش را ازبدوی دستگـیری، شکنجه و صدور حکم اعدام وی توسط مراجع امنیتی وقضایی بلخ تعقیب نموده وطی اعلامیه ها ازاین واقعیت پرده برداشت که قضیه کامبخش از دستگیری وشکنجه اش توسط ریاست امنیت (خاد)بلخ تا فیصله اخیر ستره "محکمه" همه وهمه با انگیزه سیاسی وبخاطرارضای استبداد مذهبی داخل حکومت کرزی، کرنش دربرابرطالبان وتحقق انتقام یکی از پرنس های حکومت کرزی ترتیب گردیده و از بنـیاد بی اساس میباشد. اینک یکباردیگراعلام میداریم که حکـم محاکم افغانستان را درمورد کامبخش خـلاف قانون رسانه ها و آزادی مطبوعات و مغایرحقوق مدنی شهروندان جامعه و حقوق بشر میدانیم. ستره "محکمه" بجای اینکه توجه شانرا به دوسیه های هــزاران قربانی خشونت و تجاوزات جنسی ، فساد و جنایتهای انجام شده توسط جنایتکاران حاضر در صحنه قدرت بسازد، همیشه احکام توقیف و به زندان انداختن محصلین ، روزنامه نگاران و خبر نگاران رادیو و تلویزیون را وظیفه شان ساخته اند ! پشتیبانان بین المللی حکومت کرزی که ادعای استقرار دموکراسی را داشتند وتنظیم امور عدلی و قضائی افغانستان را صرفأ بحیث وصله ناجور ثبلیغاتی دربرنامه کاری و کمک رسانی خودگنجانیده اند، باید اینک متوجه شکست خویش درساحه ریفورم سیستم قضایی شده باشند. حتی ملا های نکتایی دار که بنام کمیسیون ریفورم قضایی میلیونها دالررا درمدارک نامعلوم صرف نموده اند اینک خود، چون محتسبهای قرون وسطایی حکم صادر میکنند و مجرئیان ناسالم دستگاه غرق در فساد آنرا اجراء میکنند.
    صدور احکام سنگین جزائی برای روزنامه نگاران در حالی صادر میگردد که جانیان جنگی وناقضین حقوق بشربرکرسیهای حکومت وپارلمان تکیه زده اند. ده ها طالب از زندانهای دولتی رها و یا زمینه فرار شان مهیا میگردد، باجگیران، ادم ربایان ومتجاوزین به ناموس مردم بی پناه ازمجازات مصوون اند. اگرتصادفأ کاریک جانی به ستره محکمه برسد، به میانجیگری اعضای "پارلمان" ویا سایرکلاهبرداران توسط همین ستره محکمه رها ویا توسط رییس جمهورعفومیگردد. این وضع افغانستان را بهشت جنایتکاران و جهنم دگر اندیشان ساخته است.
    تهدید وارعاب ژورنالیستها به اندازه حکومت غربی ونمایندگی خاص ملل متحددر افغانستان وسیعأ حضور دارند، استبدادمذهبی در داخل وخارج رژیم کنونی دست برتریافته اند وچون هیولا برطرفداران آزادی بیان ودگراندیشان میتازند. لذا ما از همه ازاد اندیشان افغان انتظار اعتراضات جدی و دوام دار رادر این رابطه داریم. تا تحقق ازادی کامل کامبخشها و تأمین مصوونیت سینه های نقشبندیها و جاوید احمد ها به اعتراضات کرزی عمر دارد. تصادفی نیست که در فردای اعلام تائیدیه حکم بیست سال حبس برای کامبخش، جاوید احمد یازمی درقندهار ویک خبرنگاردیگردر کابل به قتل میرسند. با تأسف درشریط که قوای نظامی کشورهای خویش ادامه بدهیم!

    در بیابان فنا گم شدن آخر تا کی ره بپرسیم تا پی به مهمات بریم
    در مورد آزادی آقای جهانبخش همینقدر بگویم که :
    صحبت از پر پر شدن یک برگ نیست جنگل را بیابان میکنند

  • Stop being cruel to onese who want to say something against Mollaisms. It was a catastrophy and totally unfair that my colleague Kambakhsh was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment only for printing out some papers and distributing them among his class mates. I knew him, he was one year junior than me in the Balkh Journalism Faculty. The freedom of speech is just a saying in Afghanistan. It is really a pity to say you are not allowed to say tinny issues against the current government and Islamist in this country. When you talk about things that endanger the benifit of the government officials, most of them are involved in corruption, they will choke you out. I strongly criticize such radicalism action towards Parwiz Kambakhsh, therefore, I am so sorry that such a government still follows Talebani strategy. I would like to ask the international community and America to raise voice asginst such a cruelity on our city’s fellow journalist and get him released from the clunch of this governmment.
