While I hold no opinion to the comments expressed by Mr. Nasuti, I do want to correct a factual error. In the first paragraph, Mr. Nasuti claims a difference between the U.S. and Russian experiences in Afghanistan "is that Russia possesses vast mineral and oil wealth". The U.S. actually has tremendous natural resource wealth. When caluculating BTU potential from the combination of Coal + Oil + Natural Gas, the U.S. is a Top 3 Global owner of natural resources along with Russia. (I know these facts as my job on Wall Street for the past 15 years is the energy market.) I just wanted to clarify that incorrect statement.
