J.M. Coetzee, Noble Laureate in Literature, to participate in cultural fair in Shenzhen

 

Shanghai. (Interfax-China) - South African writer John Maxwell Coetzee, winner of the 2003 Nobel Price in Literature, will attended the International Cultural Industry Fair (ICIF) in the city of Shenzhen, in southern China's Guangdong Province, announced Liu Ming, Deputy Director of the ICIF Organizing Committee and Director of Shenzhen Television. Liu made the announcement at a press conference attended by Interfax in Shanghai.

Coetzee, along with other distinguished guests including Louise Frechette, Vice-Secretary of the United Nations and James Davis, President of Star China, will participate in a forum during the fair to discuss development of the global culture industry. The ICIF is scheduled for November 18-22 in Shenzhen.

"Literature and books are a part of cultural industries," Liu told Interfax in an interview after the press conference. "Mr. Coetzee was very much looking forward to coming to China and Shenzhen to participate in the fair."

The ICIF will focus on increasing awareness of and the stature of cultural industries in China, which include digital TV, cartoons and animation, and online gaming.
